Plans for a bigger market in Spilsby – extending onto the Buttercross –  have been confirmed by East Lindsey District Council.

From Monday, November 12, 2012, East Lindsey District Council will be adding 13 extra stalls to the Buttercross car park on a trial period after an increase in demand for stalls from traders.

The Council’s on-going campaign to improve markets has seen an additional 8 market traders sign up for extra stalls in Spilsby.

Mayor of Spilsby, Councillor Michael Lenton, said: “The news that Spilsby market will increase in size is great for the town and the market stall holders themselves. Praise must go to the District Council for the part they have played in this and the additional advertising the markets have received.”

Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Craig Leyland, said: “This is a very positive step forward and I hope the trial will result in a permanent increase in size. Over the next few weeks we will be working closely with market traders as we continue to deliver on the improvements to markets that we promised. The stall markets are so important to our towns; we need them to thrive for the benefit of the traders, shoppers and wider economy.”
